SOMEDAY ALL THE TREES IN THE WORLD WILL FALL
Throughout 2018-2019 I have been working with portrayal of different emotional states through series of self-portraits where I put myself in different roles and used my own body as a vessel for depicting a certain concept. Living with clinical depression and anxiety disorder for almost half of my life has left me fascinated with the dark part of the emotional spectrum and the destructive within all of us. Through this new long-term project I took that fascination further and went out in the open. I started from myself and what is close to me. At the very beginning of this series I chose to travel abroad, to the place where I originate from, and document these thoughts by photographing staged dystopian/apocalyptic scenarios where I merged the inner darkness with environmental destruction. I see destruction as both the cause and the result of the constant interaction between the inner self and the world around. And I ask the question: do we destroy the world because the world is destroying us?
A part of this work was exhibited in Stockholm, at Galleri Axel where I showcased my photography in two different media - a traditional large-scale fine art print and postcards - each being a piece of a narrative structure open for viewers personal interpretation, as well as in Glasgow Gallery of Photography as a part of their "Cruthachadh" exhibition.
